The Way They Were

This is a new book by Donna Abraham. If you have ever looked longingly at a CDV (carte de visite) image but didn't purchase it because of its cost, this book is for you. Containing almost 600 full-size copies of CDV's, it is a bargain -- only about 2 cents per image. The photos are grouped by theme, beginning with children and containing many pictures of women with emphasis on certain elements shown, e.g., the entire dress or a particular type of trim.

You will certainly develop your favorites. My own are groups of three children, all of them wearing outfits made of the same material. Another consists of two children (a brother and sister) where the girl's dress is a large bold plaid and the boy's shirt is the same fabric but cut on the bias.

Each chapter contains a short introduction and explanation. The book concludes with a page of book titles for additional reading.

While my supply lasts, I have copies signed by the author.
